Lake Steward Program
'Lake Steward' is a voluntary program that empowers shoreline landowners to implement native shoreline buffers and sustainable lakeshore practices that support water quality.
Leave a little for the lake!
Program Goal
The Steward Program is intended to educate shoreline owners + provide technical assistance in making lake life + water quality work in harmony. Through this program, we will recognize shoreline properties that 'leave a little for the lake' through any number of practices!
No single shoreline controls the water quality of a given lake; it is the collective decisions of shoreline owners that make the difference!
How Do I Participate?
-
Increase your shoreline "buffer" zone with native vegetation to limit nutrient runoff
-
Manage runoff from your property
-
Maintain your septic system
-
Plant + maintain trees on your property + along your shoreline
-
Reduce fertilizer and salt use
-
Dispose of pet waste + fire pit ash away from the shoreline

Shoreline property owners whose shoreline promotes water quality + natural habitat are awarded a Lake Steward dock sign!
