Sugar Maple Sugar Maple is a shade tolerant tree that lives about 75 to over 150 years. It typically reaches a height of 60 to 80 feet. It prefers moist to well-drained soil and is very sensitive to salt & drought. It is an excellent wildlife tree, and grows slowly to moderately. It has a spreading crown, deep fibrous roots and a beautiful fall color. Wood from the sugar maple is highly valued, and it is an excellent sap producer for maple syrup. It is highly susceptible to deer browse, and protective measures should be taken in areas of high deer population. Click on thumbnail below for larger image.
