Red Oak Red Oak is moderately tolerant of shade, lives about 150 to 300 years and reaches an average height of 60 to 80 feet. It prefers heavy to medium textured, well -drained soils. The wildlife value is moderate, and the growth rate is excellent. It is an excellent timber tree, is more shade tolerant than Bur Oak, and has a beautiful fall color.
