Paper Birch
Betula papyrifera

Paper Birch is intolerant of shade, lives about 80 years and reaches an average height of 40 to 60 feet.  It prefers moist to well -drained soils.  The wildlife value is good, and the growth rate is moderate.  It has an attractive white bark and prefers cool, moist upland conditions.   It is highly susceptible to deer browse, and protective measures should be taken in areas of high deer population.
