Bur Oak
Quercus macrocarpa

Bur Oak is moderately tolerant of shade, lives about 150 to 300 years, and reaches an average height of 60 to 80 feet.  It prefers medium to sandy textured, well-drained soils.  The wildlife value is excellent, and the growth rate is slow.  It is a superior wildlife tree, forms deep tap root, and is a hardy tree with a sturdy appearance.   It is highly susceptible to deer browse, and protective measures should be taken in areas of high deer population.
