Black Cherry
Prunus serotina
Black Cherry is intolerant of shade, lives about 150 to 200 years and grows to a height of 40 to 70 feet. It prefers medium to heavy textured, well-drained soil. It has excellent wildlife value, and grows moderately. It is the largest native cherry in USDA Hardiness Zone 3b. It has valuable wood, and edible fruit that attracts birds. It is less susceptible to deer browse than many shrubs.
