American Linden (Basswoood)
Tilia americana

Basswood is a shade tolerant tree that lives about 150 years and grows to heights ranging from 70 to 100 feet.  It prefers medium to heavy soils that are moist to well-drained.  It has fair wildlife value, and a moderate growth rate.  It has a large spreading crown, deep roots, and the flower pollen makes good honey.  It is highly susceptible to deer browse, and protective measures should be taken in areas of high deer population.
