White Cedar
Thuja ocidentalis

White Cedar is moderately shade tolerant.  It lives an average of 200 or more years.  It reaches heights of 40 to 50 feet.  It prefers well drained to poorly drained soil.  It has good to very good wildlife value, and grows slow.   It has aromatic foliage, provides good cover and forage (deer browse) for wildlife.  It is highly susceptible to deer browse, and protective measures should be taken in areas of high deer population.
