Elderberry
Sambucus canadensis

Elderberry grows to a height of about 4 to 12 feet.  It suckers, so will often spread.  It prefers moist to well drained soil and grows fast.  It is one of the most utilized fruit-bearing bushes in Minnesota by many species of birds.  It grows rapidly in rich-moist soil, prefers full sun but tolerates shade.  Because they can sometimes be unruly in appearance, Elderberry bushes are best-suited to wildlife habitat plantings in an informal landscape setting.
