SWCD Presents at NACD Conference

The Beltrami SWCD was invited to make a presentation to the National Association of Conservation Districts Forest Resource Committee (NACD) conference in Duluth , MN .   The conference addressed a number of national forestry-related issues, particularly those that involved private landowners.

U.S. are in need of technical management assistance.   In a May, 2003 statement, the USDA wrote that “More than 300 million acres, or almost half of all forest in the nation, belongs to nearly 10 million private landowners.   A majority of these landowners do not have the know-how and resources to manage their lands for long-term sustainability.”

One of the goals of the NACD Forestry Resources Committee is to create a template that can be used by Conservation Districts across the country to establish, expand, or enhance a local forestry program.   A template is defined as “a pattern or gauge… used as a guide in making something accurately…”   The template will guide Conservation Districts across the nation in selecting forestry programs that address their own local needs and conditions.

Beltrami County forest resources and the technical assistance efforts of the Beltrami SWCD were recognized, and will be highlighted in the upcoming template.
